The Social, Humanitarian, and Cultural Committee
The Third Committee of the UNGA, i.e. the Social, Cultural and Humanitarian committee, deals with multiple social and cultural issues of the time to maintain peace and security for all parties. It takes a focused view at issues that affect social paradigms and makes stringent efforts to produce collective benefits and limit social harm.
Human Trafficking is a transnational social and security issue encompassing the general outlook of violence. It primarily works through established syndicates to target specific groups based on their social status and forces these victims into labour or sex trade for personal/monetary enjoyment. Victims belong to all age groups and are unable to return to society due to deep trauma from these heinous crimes. Hence, the committee aims to tackle this issue from a multi-faceted perspective, taking into account the stories of victims as well as the responsibility of nations.
