The United Nations Security Council
The United Nations Security Council holds the organisation to a high degree of importance in the international community and undertakes the most complex debates and discussions in an atmosphere of a battlefield with the consequences of its statements and actions, as well as the power dynamics it wades through. Peace and Security matters for the Security Council for long concerned regions much closer to the equator than the Arctic, which has now emerged as a dynamic challenge where territorial claims and the fight over the same endanger beings, the environment and the future of all elements on the planet.
A gateway for exponential growth in trade, research and also harbouring growing territorial disputes, the Arctic Region’s militarisation not only opens another front for the worsening political dynamics between the world’s self - proclaimed superpowers but also further hinder growth, development and the real effectiveness of peacekeeping by regional organisations. With unresolved and encoded legal claims forming the base for the matters in the Arctic, militarisation appears as the dangerous tip of the iceberg that solidifies every day rather than melt like those around it!
